MEET KEL
Kelly Hogan is a British independent contemporary artist of Irish heritage, based in West London, UK.
From a young age, it was clear that Kel was destined for a career in the arts. As a child, she spent hours drawing, painting, and capturing the beauty of the world and its people through the lens of her father’s Pentax film camera.
Kel began her creative journey as a portrait and lifestyle photographer, assisting a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography (FBIPP) and Master Photographers Association (MPA) photographer. This experience gave her a wealth of expertise, from her warm, empathetic approach to working with people to her precise eye for composition and her mastery of lighting techniques. In 2012, she earned a BA Honours Degree in Arts and Photography from Southampton Solent University, UK.
Following her degree, Kel immersed herself in the fields of contemporary art, photography, and moving image, working professionally in both Milan, Italy, and Central London. Her artistic journey saw her collaborating with renowned photographers, celebrated artists, prestigious gallery institutions and in digital, CGI agencies including new and future technologies. Additionally, her solo travels across Southeast Asia enriched her perspective as she explored its diverse arts, cultures, and people.
Today, as a professional contemporary artist and the founder of KEL STUDIO LND, Kel seeks to celebrate and challenge perceptions of the female form in society through her collection of paintings, photography, and video works.

ARTIST STATEMENT
In my contemporary paintings, I strive to challenge and reimagine the traditional portrayal of the female form, sparking conversations about its place in society. Working across a variety of sizes and mediums—ranging from small canvases to large boards—I use acrylic paint and mixed media to explore the complexities of femininity, inviting viewers to reflect and engage in meaningful dialogue.
My work is deeply personal, rooted in my experiences of womanhood. By examining the female form through themes of beauty, shape, line, energy, and allure, I aim to provoke thought and challenge preconceived notions. Each piece is a celebration of women’s empowerment, honouring the diversity of experiences and rights of women today.
In my latest series, The Dark Collection, I confront the pressing issue of oppression faced by women across the globe. Each painting portrays a female figure emerging from darkness, symbolising resilience and empowerment as they find their own light. These works are designed to foster discourse on the struggles and triumphs of women, encouraging understanding and empathy.
Additionally, my art explores the profound connection between the human form and the subconscious mind, delving into the realms of psychoanalysis. By engaging with the subconscious, I seek to challenge societal norms and perceptions surrounding the female form.
Through my paintings, I hope to inspire conversations, question entrenched beliefs, and drive positive change. By illuminating the complexities of the female experience, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive and empathetic society."
